All Mount Prospect Police Officers begin their career in patrol. The patrol division is our largest section and provides the majority of polices services to the community. No day in patrol is ever the same. Patrol officers investigate crimes, make arrests, conduct traffic enforcement, patrol the community, conduct community meetings, and work collectively with the community to solve problems.
Detectives conduct follow-up investigations. Officers are eligible to be detectives after they have completed at least 2 years of patrol experience. Investigations conducted by our detectives include homicide, robbery, family violence, retail theft, juvenile crime, and fraud.
In addition to their patrol responsibilities, officers can take on additional tasks through specialty assignments.
